Donor oocytes offer hope to women with declining or lack of ovarian function, women who carry a genetic defect, or patients who’ve experienced failed IVF cycles thought to be related to poor egg quality. Making the decision to use donor eggs is a long and difficult process. Our staff recognizes the emotional needs that accompany such a decision, therefore we work closely with counselors who can aid in your decision making process.
Egg donation involves harvesting eggs from the ovaries of a donor who has been stimulated with fertility medication. The eggs are then fertilized with the male partner’s sperm and the resulting embryos are transferred to the recipient’s uterus. The recipient undergoes hormonal preparation which synchronizes the lining of the uterus to the age of the embryos.
Egg donors may be known or anonymous to the recipient couple. Donors my be found on the Internet, through our office, or from within your circle of friends and family. All donors are screened medically and psychologically to assure they are free from any known genetic or infectious disease.
